LOS ANGELES
(MAY 11, 2019) – On
Friday morning, May 10, Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Kenley Jansen paid the 15 patients
on the pediatric floor at White Memorial Hospital a visit to unveil his inaugural
‘Kenley’s Locker.’ The more than a dozen families in attendance welcomed Kenley
and his wife Gianni to the hospital for a special unveiling of the new
technology locker, which houses five Nintendo Switches with cases and games, along
with 20 iPads. As part of the program, the hospital is also receiving $500
worth of iTunes gift cards to support various applications on the iPads.
|
Jansen, the Dodgers’
All-Star closer, was joined by David Vassegh of “Dodger Talk” on AM 570, who
served as the program’s emcee, to discuss the importance of community outreach
directed toward children suffering from pediatric illnesses. John Raffoul, CEO
of White Memorial Hospital, joined the Jansens and several kids in attendance
to cut the ribbon, officially opening the first ‘Kenley’s Locker’ to the public.
|
Following the unveiling
ceremony, the Jansens went room to room visiting patients throughout the
hospital who were unable to attend the program launch.
|
In addition to dealing
with the ongoing conditions of their illness, these children deal with numerous
other hardships as a result of regular hospitalizations. Being in the hospital prevents
them from seeing friends and family on a regular basis, they fall behind in
school, and they face boredom of sitting in a hospital bed all day. The
technology provided in ‘Kenley’s Locker’ will work toward addressing all of
these needs through means of entertainment, portals for communication and educational
applications.
|
Reaching more than
500,000 patients and family members annually, the ‘Kenley’s Locker’ at White
Memorial Hospital represents the first official programming of the Kenley
Jansen Foundation. ‘Kenley’s Locker’ is the signature community outreach
program of the Kenley Jansen Foundation, which seeks to improve the quality of
life of children struggling with serious illnesses and physical challenges.
|
The unveiling of the inaugural
‘Kenley’s Locker’ at White Memorial Hospital precedes the foundation’s first
fundraising event at the Grammy Museum on July 22nd. ‘A Night of
Courageous Hearts’ will raise money to go toward outreach programs like ‘Kenley’s
Locker.’
